Essay Ideas

Working in a group, you should plan three different essays which answer the question:

How does Hinton demonstrate the significance of choice in "The Outsiders".

You could think about the following areas:

• What are the factors which influence the choices which characters make?
• What are the consequences of the choices which characters make (both positive and negative)?
• The domino effect...
• Bravado, pride, loyalty, honour
• Anything else which we discussed this morning...

Each plan should:

• Have a clear and original focus
• Have a logical structure for the essay
• Include quotations from the text (use the online quote banks to help you)
